DiY: Cork Board Wall Art

After working with small people all week Flamingo and I decided to have a craft night complete with food and wine.

Our adventure started as soon as we got to Hobby Lobby she was searching for the right shade of blue to make a wreath. Not having an luck, she gave up and we started our search for cork board and fabric. Within minutes Little Flamingo immediately let her know at the top of her voice that she was pooping. Needless to say we got out of there quickly. We stopped for dinner from Chipotle and necessary wine and we were soon on our way home again.

We realized quickly that we were going to need a bottle opener, a knife and adult supervision. I called Husby and our problems were solved.

Here's what you need: cork board, enough fabric to cover your cork board, hot glue gun, and wine!

I wanted large circles for my wall. I could only find 12x12 pieces of cork board. I used an empty trashcan to draw my circle. Then I took Husby's knife to cut them out since the scissors weren't cutting it (pun intended)!

I tried cutting through all the way to the cutting board underneath and then popped the edges off. I popped them away from me to prevent as much tearing as possible.

I cut out 4 for my walls. Super easy and quick! I did have to stop every so often because my hands were starting to hurt.

Wine breaks in her fancy wine glasses were essential!

These were the fabrics I picked out. You could do as many or as few as you'd like. My favorite was the flower pattern. I'm still trying to figure out other ways to use it around the house! I'm in love with it!

I cut the fabric so just enough would cover my circle.  I folded the edge over and hot glued a section down over the cork board.

I continued to glue down the edges until
It was completely glued down. Make sure to stay as close to the edge as you can get. Don't worry about the extra material yet.

After the material is glued down, take a pair of scissors and cut as close to where you glued as possible all around the edges.

And you're done! Here's what mine looked like completed!

There were super easy to make, like maybe an hour. And I only spent about $12 to make them! I got lucky and found my material on sale at Hobby Lobby! And here they are hanging up in my kitchen. I took out my trusty hot glue gun and glued them up there! Hot glue gun makes everything better!

Obsessed

I don't ever just like something I basically become obsessed with it.

Owls. Anything Disney related. My cat, Gracie. Harry Potter.  Failed Pinterest projects.

You get the picture I'm sure.

My latest obsession is pretty fantastic though.  A few months ago I started attending a new church with a best friend. I loved every minute of it from worship to the service. Lifechurch is life changing. I have never felt so comfortable attending a church. For once in my life, I actually look forward to going.  They've been talking about this Bible app for your phone that you can follow along with during the service. I take my Bible with me because well, I'm still old fashioned and just like flipping through it. I think it reminds me of bible drills from children's church, you know that race to see who can find it the fastest?

Anyways, a few weeks back I they were talking about it AGAIN and I downloaded it and basically forgot about it.  Later that night I really started to dig through it to what it was all about.

And Oh. My. Gosh.

Life Changing!

There's a verse for each day. There's hundreds of different versions, I prefer good old NIV. And literally THOUSANDS translations!

I've been wanting to read the Bible completely through. I've tried several times but never gotten very far.  They have all these plans that will take you through the Bible!  I found one that is perfect for me. It breaks it down into small chunks that make it super easy for me to read and I don't feel overwhelmed. And there's no anxiety if I miss a day, it's even easy for me to catch up!   I've even found a mini devotional for the days leading up to Christmas!

It takes about 20 minutes of my day. Most days I read it while my preschool babies are napping. It's so peaceful and quiet during that time. It's a nice little mid-day pick me up. I've found several times already that there was something I needed to hear.  Like being persistent when I'm praying, something I definitely need to work on...

Seriously, check out Lifechurch or the YouVersion app. It's amazing.

C'est la vie

Nothing terrible ever seemed to happen to me or at least when it did it always seemed to happen to someone else.  I can clearly remember thinking, at least it wasn't me.

And then it finally happened.

Cooper was born.

Cooper got sick a week later.

Cooper died two days later.

And from there life just sort of happened. It snowballed out of my control for the next few years. For a while if there were two possible scenarios, a good or a not so good, you could almost bet that the not so good was going to happen to us.

Not the sort of life I pictured for myself when I was 10. Or the life I pictured when I was 20. And even now not the life I pictured at 30.

But it is life and it's my life.

I'll survive because of faith, family, friends and sweet tea.
